The Cosmic Horrors
Beyond the realms lie dimensions outside of time and space. No mortal has ever seen these worlds, for they are indescribable and beyond the comprehension of even the gods. These worlds are more horrific and mind shattering than even the most evil of realms known to Sarcasca, even Yatbuju, Malferno, and the prison realms of banished deities. The beings inhabiting these worlds are so indescribably monstrous and horrible that by the laws of nature and even the supernatural, they should not exist and yet they do. The power level of these beings varies wildly. Some are no more powerful than a talented sorcerer or seasoned warrior, while others are more powerful than the gods, the strongest of True Demons, and even Orongi the Destroyer himself. Some are so powerful and so incomprehensibly horrible that if they were summoned into the realms, their mere presence would cause catastrophic damage and even destroy an entire realm if they were there for too long. Although some have forms semi-familiar to mortal eyes, most are indescribable and incomprehensible to even the gods themselves. Some have no set form and shift constantly. Even those that are semi-familiar in appearance are so twisted and wrong that their very presence can fracture the mind of any mortal that sees them. Most of the time, they remain in their own dimension. However, the most powerful of them can, in a way, communicate with certain individuals through the dimensional barriers, usually in the target’s dreams. It is in this way that their existence is even known of at all and several tomes of lore have been penned by those whose minds have been touched. Sometimes cults form to individual entities dedicated to bringing them over to the Material Realm. Rodaria is constantly on the lookout for any cults that may spring up and will move swiftly to stamp out any that they find before too much damage can be done. While nobody has ever succeeded in bringing over the truly powerful ones (many have tried, but fortunately these cults are usually eradicated by Rodarian crusaders, local heroes, or even by the very monsters they summon before they can bring over their chosen masters), lesser creatures have been summoned before and some cults have managed to weaken a few points in the barrier to the point that a fissure will sometimes open and allow a few of these horrors to enter on their own. Only the strongest of minds can stand up to these abominations without breaking and a plague of madness usually follows in the wake of the arrival of a horror. Many of the most powerful entities do have names, but they are almost unpronounceable to mortal tongues. Descriptions of these entities are vague and disjointed as even the insane cannot truly comprehend their appearance. The Cosmic Horrors have always been and always will be. They existed before the Primordials created the universe and will continue to exist long after the universe has been destroyed.
